Our guest blogger today is Linda Kopec, an active supporter of the Fellowship. Linda alerts us to an opportunity for specific prayer for the Greater Chicago area. She writes:
As I’ve listened to the radio or followed news reports this month, I’ve noticed growing concerns being voiced about the upcoming G8 and NATO summits to be held in Chicago in mid May. These concerns include demonstrations, terrorism, cyber-attacks, security measures in the city and suburbs, along the lakefront and at O’Hare airport. Even apprehension about “rolling” road closures has been mentioned.
In thinking about the mission of the Fellowship — “to nourish Christian Science worship, fellowship, and healing in a warm, bold, new way that supports one another and reaches the world” — what a wonderful opportunity we have to “reach the world” arriving at our doorstep this spring by joining together individually, and as churches, linked in prayer for the harmony, safety, and well-being of those coming to Chicago — and its surrounding communities, local governments, businesses, and residents.
It’s not too soon to get started! If you or your church would like to join a Prayer Watch for the summits, please post a comment below. And, we’d love to hear where your prayers are leading you!
What came to me from a Journal article is that man never left heaven for Earth.Therefore man is incapable of offending his Christly true nature as the image and likeness od God,his perfect Principle. His very life is the reflection of a perfect Principle which can only cause man to know and do the right thing Man is obedient to law, order and perfection

I’d love to join a prayer watch with you! I go to the CS society in Hyde Park Chicago, and I’ll spread the word there too. The line from Science and Health that comes to me right away is, (b) S&H 340:23-29: One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, “Love thy neighbor as thyself;” annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry, — whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.’ covers the whole ground! Maybe we could make a prayer watch Facebook page…
With Chicago’s reputation as “The Windy City,” my prayers for the summits are beginning with Mary Baker Eddy’s definition of wind: “that which indicates the might of omnipotence and the movements of God’s spiritual government, encompassing all things.” S&H 597
I love what pray-ers are sharing here for Chicago. What has come to me this morning is the City Foursquare in Revelation, the spiritual facts about “city” and who may enter and what they bring. Even the Chicago River gets a makeover with a healing purpose! The following is from J.B. Phillips.
Rev 21:23-27 The city has no need for the light of sun or moon, for the splendour of God fills it with light and its radiance is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. The city’s gates shall stand open day after day—and there will be no night there. Into the city they will bring the splendours and honours of the nations.
But nothing unclean, no one who deals in filthiness and lies, shall ever at any time enter it
Rev 22: 1-3 Then he showed me the river of the water of life, sparkling like crystal as it flowed from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of the street of the city and on either bank of the river grew the tree of life, bearing twelve fruits, a different kind for each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Nothing that has cursed mankind shall exist any longer;
I love lifting up this event and our community, to the divinely natural. And doing it in fellowship. When Paul was left for dead, the community stood round about him and he rose up and continued his work. “CS raises the standard of liberty”… violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy boarders.
How can we keep this going? Can we get it onto Church Alive? More than Chicago people will be caring about the G8 Summit and praying about it.
(I did some research… it is May 19/20, and the NATO meeting of the rest of the world’s participating economies, is May 20/21)
